Unlock Crab Traps & Upgrade Guide | Dave the Diver Tips
In Dave the Diver, Crab Traps do more than just catch crabs—they're also handy for snagging lobsters. To get your hands on these traps, you'll need to tackle the quest "A Nutritious Food for Sea People?", a side mission unlocked once you've made some headway in the game's main storyline and gained access to the Glacial Passage.
So, how do you kickstart this quest? Well, first things first, make your way over to the Sea Village and have a chat with Duwa at his Blacksmithing Workshop. Poor Duwa's battling a stubborn cough and needs a remedy. After your tête-à-tête with him, swing by Mima's Restaurant for a gossip session with Mima. She suggests whipping up a dish with Horsehair Crabs to ease Duwa's ailment, but warns they're not the easiest catch. Next stop: the surface. Chat with Otto at the crop farm; he'll clue you in that you need a Crab Trap to nab those elusive crustaceans.
Otto's your man for the trap, but he's got a shopping list: 3 Lumber, 2 Scrap Iron, 2 Rope, and 1 Tiger Shark Tooth. Gather these bits and bobs and toss them Otto's way. In return, he'll hand you the coveted Crab Trap. Armed with your new toy, you're primed to reel in some Crab and Lobster action.
Now, deploying a Crab Trap isn't rocket science, but there's a bit of finesse to it. Head to the Glacial Area and keep your eyes peeled for bubbling rocks. Once you've spotted a promising crevice, give it a poke to set your trap, bait it up, and then it's a waiting game. Remember, the bait quality matters; higher-ranked bait lures in the bigger catches. While you're waiting, feel free to explore—you'll be notified when your trap snags something. Don't forget to retrieve your haul before resurfacing to avoid disappointment.
Got yourself a Horsehair Crab? Nice work! Head back to Sea People Village and deliver it to Mima. She'll rustle up a delicious Steamed Horsehair Crab dish, leaving it outside her joint for you to grab. Scoop it up and trot over to Duwa's Workshop. Serve up the dish to Duwa, who'll be so grateful he'll slip you 150 Bei and 1 Divine Tree Fruit Fragment as a thank you.
But wait, there's more! Once you've unlocked the Crab Trap, you can soup it up using the iDiver app. This nifty upgrade option allows you to boost your trap's capabilities, maxing out at Level 3. At this level, you can deploy a trio of traps at once on your dives. Upgrading won't break the bank either; the initial boost sets you back 4,500 gold, with the final upgrade ringing in at 9,200 gold.
Now, onto the juicy bit: what can you catch? Well, there's a whole smorgasbord of 14 different Crab and Lobster species up for grabs. From Red-banded Lobsters to Snow Crabs, there's plenty to keep you occupied in your Crab Trap expeditions. Just remember, while you'll be hauling in some impressive catches, the bigger fellas like Spider Crabs still require some extra firepower to bag.
